No spoilers, but it requires knowledge of the story up through Volume 8.

And of course the story belongs to Miki Aihara, not me. I'm just working off her ideas. :D

“Shinogu san,” Mrs. Tachibana said. “It’s so nice to see you. Hopefully, you haven’t been working too hard.”

Like you care, Shinogu thought. He bowed and asked “What can I do for you today? Is Ryoki all right?”

“Oh, of course.” Mrs. Tachibana answered. “I wanted to invite you to our home for the afternoon. I was thinking it would be a nice change of pace.”

“Oh,” Shinogu answered. “Of course I will. Thank you. If you’ll just give me a moment to gather my texts and notes.”

“Of course,” Mrs. Tachibana answered. “I’ll see you upstairs in 15 minutes.”

Shinogu gently closed the door as she walked away. He closed his eyes, counted to ten, and then started swearing.

Shit! What am I going to do? I’ve never tutored Ryoki before. We don’t even talk. I sit and watch him read some book every week.

Shinogu had prepared for the possibility though, and had left some of his old textbooks in his room. He picked up the Calculus and Physics books and put them in his book bag and trudged upstairs. Ryoki will think of something. It killed Shinogu to admit it, but Ryoki was pretty clever when it came to these things. He hated having to rely on him for anything, and was looking forward to the day when he would never have to think about the Tachibanas, ever.

He was surprised to find the Tachibana’s door open, and a maid standing at the door.

“Hello Mr. Narita,” she said.

“Hello,” Shinogu answered. He felt a little sheepish. He had only met her once, when she was tending to Hatsumi. He couldn’t even remember what exactly she had said when she reamed him out, but it was enough to put him in his place for a moment.

“Please come in,” She said gesturing.

“Thank you,” Shinogu answered. Somehow she didn’t seem quite as threatening indoors and with her uniform on. Still he was still bitter, angry, and hurt about her helping Ryoki and Hatsumi make up.

He walked in. The last time he had been in there was when Ryoki announced that he wanted Shinogu to be his tutor.

“Please have a seat,” the maid told him. She gestured and poured a some tea into what Shinogu presumed was his cup. Still he wasn’t taking any chances, and just sat down where she had gestured.

He sat and stared at his feet until Mrs. Tachibana came into the room.

“You wouldn’t object to tutoring someone else along with Ryoki today?” She asked.

Shinogu stared at her blankly. He wasn’t expecting that. This was getting worse and worse.

“Of course not,” he answered.

“She’s a young lady who’s a very dear friend of the family. I’m sure you’ll find her very amiable and charming,” said Mrs. Tachibana.

Probably not, Shinogu thought.

Mrs. Tachibana continued talking, and Shinogu tuned her out altogether. He nodded and hoped she wouldn’t ask any follow up questions.

She’s trying to set Ryoki up with another girl. That bitch. What will I tell Hatsumi? I can’t be a part of this. I need to find a way out of here.

And yet, he couldn’t help feeling a tiny bit of hope. This might be our chance, he thought.
